Question: Are exam averages correlated with student final exam scores?

My explanatory variable is exam average and response variable is final exam scores.

The correlation between both averages is roughly 88%. If you study more than others then you will do better on the exams and final.

Based on the correlation, there is a strong association between the exam averages and the final exam scores.

The lurking variables could be not showing up for the exam and final. Or not studying at all.
