Average Teacher Salaries
Mail   Print   Twitter   Facebook

The data in this project came from a data set on from 2010. The data consists of the average teachers salary and the starting salary of a teacher depending on the state and the region of the U.S. that the teachers are located. I was interested in seeing what region of the United States had a higher average salary for teachers. This is what interested me because my goal is to get my teaching degree and teach in an area where I will earn a decent salary and still be close to my family. I hope to teach somewhere in the Northeast where I am from.

To figure out what region had the highest salary I first created a histogram to model what the overall average salary for teachers in the United States is. This model showed that the average pay is between $40,000 and $45,000. I then created a boxplot comparing the regions of the U.S. and their average salaries. The regions included the South, the Midwest, the West, and the Northeast. According to the boxplot, the region with the highest average salary is the Northeast. The median amount is about $55,000 in the Northeast and the minimum amount is about $41,000. This shows that the average salary in the Northeast is generally higher than the typical U.S. average.
