Introduction/purpose:
Our purpose was to assess the sample of the population of the campus of Georgia College in order to see those who prefer to text in comparison to those who prefer to call. We will compare the data based on the correlations that we found based our sample frame. We hope to find a strong correlation and identify any possible lurking or confounding variables. For example, does age effect whether or not you prefer to call versus text? Our hypothesis is that as you get older, your calling versus texting preference changes in favor to calling.

Methods:

The sample for this survey is 40 students and faculty from the Georgia College Campus.

The population for this survey is the entirety of Georgia College.

Our questions included:

  • 1.       How old are you?
  • 2.       Do you prefer to call or text?
  • 3.       How many people on average a day do you call?
  • 4.       How many people a day on average do you text?

 

Possible biases/assumptions:
The sample may not give an accurate account of the student body because of how small the sample size is. We may not receive an accurate number of people that they call and text because their answers are estimations.

Conclusion:
After conducting this survey, we observed that our hypothesis was correct. The younger you are, the more you text. As you get older, your preference changes to calling. We realized that we would have used a larger sampling frame in order to represent our population of the campus as a whole. We discovered that an individual's occupation may affect the amount of phone usage. This is a confounding variable.
