Introduction

This study utilized a convenience sample of 134 patients undergoing Tracheal Carina Resection (TCR) surgery.

Data/Analysis

Data was collected on the following variables:

  • age at surgery
  • prior tracheal surgery
  • extent of the resection
  • intubation required at end of surgery
  • patient death

This histogram of patient age at surgery is set to a binwidth of five which seems to have broken the data down into a more readable graph.

As the pie chart indicates only 25.19% of TCR patients had prior tracheal surgery.

As shown in this Histogram, the extent of resection ranges from 1 to 6.5 CM in length, with most patients falling in the 2 - 3.5 cm range.

As the left side of the bar graph indicates only 6 of 115 patients who were not intubated died following the procedure. The right side indicates 20 patients required intubation and more than half of them didn't survive.

As the pie chart depicts 17 (12.59%) of the 135 subjects died during TCR.

 The left side of the graph depictes that 28 out of 118 patients (31.1%) had prior tracheal surgery, whereas 6 of 17 patients who died (54.5%) had prior traceal surgery.

Vickie - this looks really good. Don't forget that you need to make comments on other student's reports. My only comment related to your report is that you might provide just a bit more interms of explanation. For example, your graph of intubation and death (result 4) would seem to suggest that intubation makes death more likely. We can't conclude that strongly because this is only a picture, but later on we will learn to do a chi-square test that (I think) would show that to be true in this case.

Very nice job explaining your graphs- and I like how you made graphs to compare intubation/death and prior surgeries/death- a very insightful idea! I used a different graph the extent of resection that (I think) broke it down a little more thoroughly. Nice work!
