I took the 800m race winning times from the file and perform the similar analysis. I found the linear regression to be:
X800m = 126.02685 - 0.010984848 year
So it has a negative slope as well, showing improvements year over year. However, the correlation coefficient is small (= -0.1216 ). With only 10 data points, it is clear that any reasonable alpha value we choose (0.01, 0.05), it fails to conclude a correlation.
